Introduction

As poverty is the main development challenge for the overall development of Nepal, Government of Nepal has been repeatedly stated and emphasized to Poverty alleviations as the primary agenda of development.

Since the microfinance is universally accepted as an effective tool for addressing poverty, Govrment of Nepal and Nepal Rastra Bank (Central Bank) has its focus in microfinance services.

With the aims to support the government program, The Sarathi Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd. has concentrated its activities in tarai (Plain) areas to hills and mountain areas.

So far, after the merger of two different ( The Sarathi Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., Vyas-02, Damauli, Tanahun and Naya Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd., Dhulikhel -03, Kaverepalanchowk) companies, the unified companies was given new name, "Sarathi Nepal Laghubitta Bittiya Sanstha Ltd". It is a public limited company under the Company Act 2063 and operating under the Banking and Financial Institution Act (BAFIA) 2073. The organization is licensed by NRB as a "D" class National Level financial institution under the BAFIA.

Mission

Reaching out to encouraging poor people of the Central and Eastern Regions through microfinance services including special support package (Solar Home System, Biogas and Irrigation, etc.) and making them financially empowered.

Strategy

The SNLB have its strategies as under;

  1. Savings first.
  2. Target – based approach in micro financial services.
  3. Total services (inclusive of special support) in package to its clients.
  4. Financial discipline is must for micro financial services.
  5. Priorities to women, minorities, Dalits and Janajaties in micro finance services.
  6. Non-collateral based lending (group liability) and individual liabilities for special package program.
  7. Equal installments for repayment of micro credit and repayment modules for Hill people.
  8. Transparent and fast track service delivery approach to its clients.
  9. Services will be conducted through Service Delivery Centers (SDCs).
  10. Lean and smart manpower based organization.
  11. Credit plus approach is endeavored in micro financial services. The institution will make  its best efforts in coordinating such services to the clients.

Objectives

Objectives of the SNLB are:

  1. To provide all kinds of sustainable microfinance services to its clients of the operational areas of the bank
  2. To help develop banking and savings habit amongst rural people, generate savings and mobilize for its best utilization.
  3. To provide alternative financial services to its clients such as remittance services and insurance products.
  4. To make its clients financially empowered through micro finance services.
  5. To generate employment opportunities including self-employment in the project areas of the bank.
  6. To provide microfinance services to at least one member from the deprived household.
  7. To maintain a constant and close relationship with its beneficiaries.
